Anna Montana Finja Bootcut Jeans: Are They the Right Fit for You?

Have you owned a pair of bootcut jeans before?

Like most jean shapes, they’ve moved in and out of the fashion spotlight since the 1970s. Since then, Skinny jeans became king, then came straight legs, wide legs, barrel legs and every shape in between.

And now the bootcut is well and truly back.

But we don’t think you should rush to buy them just because the fashionistas tell you to, the reason you should take a very close look at these jeans is because Bootcut jeans can be a very flattering shape.

They can balance curves, make legs appear longer and give you something between a straight leg and a full flare.

So whether you’re petite, tall, curvy, straight up and down or somewhere in between it’s definitely worth giving them a go which brings us neatly to the Anna Montana Finja, one of our featured bootcut jeans at Artichoke.

The Finja fits neatly through the waist, hips and thigh before kicking out below the knee, giving you that lovely balancing effect we’re about to talk about.

We’re one of Anna Montana’s biggest stockists in the UK. They’re a brand we’ve worked with for nearly two decades & we have great confidence in the styles they produce.

Let’s look at why this shape works – and whether the Finja might work for you.

What are bootcut jeans?

A bootcut jean is fitted through the hips and thighs before gently widening from around the knee towards the hem.

And, as the name suggests, the original idea was very practical – the slightly wider hem allowed the jeans to sit over a pair of boots. You may also see this shape described as a flare or kick flare depending on the brand – don’t get too hung up on the name, it’s how the jeans actually look and fit on you that matters.

Are bootcut jeans in fashion in 2026?

Yes.

Bootcut and kick flare jeans have made a noticeable return to both the catwalks and in street style this year, however if bootcut jeans suit you and work with your wardrobe, we genuinely believe that you should wear them whether they’re on trend or not.

What we particularly like about the current return of the bootcut is that it gives those of us who remember wearing them the second (or even the first time around) permission to rediscover a shape that can be incredibly easy to wear.

Why are bootcut jeans so flattering?

It’s largely about proportion.

Because a bootcut fits relatively closely through the hip and thigh before widening slightly below the knee, the eye follows a longer line down the leg.

The little kick at the bottom can also provide balance.

That’s why you’ll often hear bootcut jeans described as “leg lengthening”.

Of course, no pair of jeans can actually make your legs longer. What the right cut, rise, length and shoes can do is change the proportions we see.

And that can make a huge difference.

Are bootcut jeans good for pear shapes?

Bootcut Jeans are great for pear shapes.

If you’re fuller around the hips and thighs, a skinny jean will narrow considerably towards the ankle, creating what Christine calls “The Carrot Look”. A bootcut does the opposite – by adding width back at the bottom of the leg, it helps balance the width at the hips and creates a more even silhouette.

Obviously you don’t want to hide your curves, but if you’re looking for a jean shape that works with your proportions rather than emphasising the difference between hip and ankle, the bootcut is a great option to try.

A darker, fairly even denim wash can enhance that long, clean line too.

Do bootcut jeans suit an hourglass shape?

Again, yes.

An hourglass figure usually has a defined waist with more shape through the bust and hips.

A bootcut will work well as it follows the shape through the hips and thighs, while the wider hem provides balance below.

A higher rise can be useful here because it defines the waist and creates a longer line through the leg.

What if I’m straighter through the hips?

Don’t assume bootcuts are only for curvy women.

If you’re straighter through the waist and hips, the slight kick at the bottom will introduce some shape to your silhouette & if you are a bit booby it can help balance your shape below the waistline.

One of the reasons we don’t particularly like declaring that a particular jean is “for” one body shape is because the same pair of jeans can do slightly different things on women of different shapes, sizes & heights.

Can petite women wear bootcut jeans?

Absolutely. You do not have to be tall to wear a bootcut as the long line created by a bootcut can be very flattering on a petite frame.

But length matters.

If the jeans are so long that they’re pooling around your shoes, you lose that lovely clean line. Equally, if they’re shortened too much, you can lose some of the shape of the bootcut.

Think about the shoes you’re most likely to wear before deciding on the length – a boot with a small heel or a pointed toe can continue the line beautifully. Trainers can work too, but if you’re petite we’d be careful with anything particularly chunky, as it can interrupt that lovely long line. A cropped flare with some ankle on display is another great option.

The Finja has a 32” inside leg, so if you’re petite it may be too long for you. In that case, we’d recommend taking a look at the Ascari Body Perfect Body Kick instead.

What about taller women?

Bootcuts are an obvious choice for taller women too – provided they’re long or short enough.

You can wear a bootleg as a cropped flare, but like every shape that you try, you need to avoid that half masty look.

Ideally, you want enough length for the jean to fall cleanly over your chosen shoe without dragging along the floor, or short enough to look deliberately cropped with some ankle on display. As the Finja has a 32” inside leg, depending on your height these may not be suitable for you.

Do bootcut jeans work if you carry weight around your middle?

They can.

Rather than focusing purely on the leg shape, pay particular attention to the rise and waistband.

A mid or higher rise that sits comfortably and stays in place can create a smoother line than a waistband you’re constantly pulling up or one that cuts into you when you sit down.

Stretch can also make a considerable difference to comfort.

But don’t assume that “high rise” automatically means “flattering”. Bodies are different. The best rise is the one that sits comfortably on your waist and doesn’t dig in, roll down or gape.

What shoes should I wear with bootcut jeans?

Despite the name, boots aren’t compulsory.

An ankle boot is probably the most obvious autumn/winter choice because the hem sits neatly over it.

A small heel can emphasise the leg-lengthening effect, while a pointed toe peeping out from underneath can continue the line.

But trainers can give bootcut jeans a much more relaxed feel.

The important thing is to consider shoe and jean length together.

What tops work with bootcut jeans?

This is another area where there really aren’t many rules.

Because the bottom of the jean already provides some shape, you can keep the top half relatively simple.

A shirt tucked in – fully or just at the front – can emphasise your waist.

A shorter knit or jacket can help lengthen the appearance of your legs, particularly if you’re petite.

A blazer gives bootcut jeans a smarter feel.

And a chunky jumper can work perfectly well too.

Why do we like the Anna Montana Finja?

The Anna Montana Finja takes all the things we’ve been talking about and puts them into a very wearable pair of jeans.

It has a high rise and fits neatly through the waist, hips and thighs before kicking out below the knee. The 32″ leg gives you that lovely long line, while the stretch in the denim makes them comfortable enough to actually wear all day.

And that’s important to us.

There’s no point finding a pair of jeans that looks fabulous when you’re standing in front of the mirror if you can’t wait to take them off three hours later.

At Artichoke you’ll find the Finja in Blue Black, which gives you a darker, cleaner look, as well as Used Stone for a more relaxed denim look.

They’re also a good example of why we’d rather you looked at the actual shape of a pair of jeans than worried too much about whether the label says bootcut, bootleg, flare or kick flare.

If there’s one message we want you to take away, it’s this.

There is no single jean shape that every woman “should” own.

Bootcut jeans are having a moment, but that is simply giving us an opportunity to try them.

If you put them on and love what they do for you, brilliant.

If your favourite skinny jeans still make you feel fabulous, keep wearing those.

The best jeans for you are always the ones you will actually wear.

And if you’re not sure which shape is right for you, that’s exactly what we’re here for.

At Artichoke we spend our lives helping real women find jeans that work for their shape, height and lifestyle – it’s our job to do so. You can use our JEANS QUIZ or give us a call and we’ll happily help you work out where to start.

Bootcut Jeans: Your Questions Answered

Are bootcut jeans flattering?

Bootcut jeans can be flattering on many different body shapes. The fitted upper leg and gentle flare below the knee can create a longer-looking leg line and help balance proportions.

Are bootcut jeans good for curvy women?

Yes. The slight width at the bottom of a bootcut can balance fuller hips and thighs, while a well-fitting waistband and stretch denim can provide a comfortable fit through the waist and hips.

Can petite women wear bootcut jeans?

Absolutely. Bootcut jeans can create a leg-lengthening effect on petite women. Getting the length and proportions right is more important than your height.

Are bootcut jeans on trend in 2026?

Yes. Bootcut and slim-flare jeans have returned prominently for 2026 and are particularly visible for autumn/winter. However, the bootcut is also a longstanding denim shape, so we’d choose it because it works for you rather than simply because it’s currently fashionable.

What shoes go with bootcut jeans?

Ankle boots, heeled boots, trainers and heels can all work with bootcut jeans. The important thing is getting the jean length right for the shoes you’re wearing.

Should bootcut jeans touch the floor?

They should be long enough to create a clean, uninterrupted line but shouldn’t drag along the floor. Try them with the shoes you’re most likely to wear so you can judge the finished length properly.
