The August Edit
This month we are going to start looking at the transitional pieces that have been quietly arriving over the past few weeks.
We did this little photo shoot (twanky music courtesy of imovies, thank you) in the last heatwave at the fabulous Strattons Hotel.
Donna picked three items for her August Edit which is over on our Inspiration Page (still a work in progress but I think we are finally getting somewhere) on the website
The Striped DressThis easy to wear & care (for) dress is the centre piece of Donna’s edit this month, a time when we are looking for pieces that will work now as well as in the months to come.
A great basic that you can wear in the autumn with tights & boots as well as on cooler summer days with white trainers or flip flops.
When wearing a striped dress your supporting pieces need to do just that. Leave clashing colours & prints for for the beautiful & the brave (think Vogue fashion shoots & Vivienne Westwood) for us mere mortals a single toned jacket or gilet will do the job.
A lot of nonsense is talked about horizontal versus vertical stripes. Donna is just 5” & looks fabulous in this frock. The trick with stripes is to keep the eye moving with different widths & colours. And if you love stripes but hate yourself in them buy pieces to be worn on cooler days when you can wear something very plain over the top to tone them down.
The Denim Jacket
Created in 1880 by Levi Strauss & intended to be worn by miners, railway workers & cowboys The Denim Jacket is now a core staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Or it should be.
Perfect for layering, transitional & trans seasonal it works with absolutely everything.Dressing down a piece that you bought for an occasion so that it can be worn every day, adding edge to a cocktail dress & if you dare, double denim.
This season’s trend is to go oversized. Great if you are six foot, stick thin & gorgeous – a bit ‘Royale Family’ if you are an old gel from Norfolk & like to hang onto your clothes for a year or two, so we are sticking to a classic shape in a soft, stretch denim.
Wear yours now with a maxi or white jeans & in the depths of winter over a sweater & under a gilet. We do.
Flatform Canvas Trainers
Donna has worn hers all summer. They have been up (& down) Snowden & although we wouldn’t officially recommend it popped in the washing machine at least twice.
The flatform trainer is the perfect transitional shoe & of course can be worn anywhere & with anything
