The Swaffham & Litcham Home Hospice is our charity of the year again this year so we thought it would be a lovely idea if Mavis & Clare told you a bit about this amazing charity that you all so generously support: “My name is Mavis, and I am a Committee Member, fundraiser and volunteer for Swaffham and Litcham Home Hospice Support. We are thrilled Sarah has made us her charity of the year. I have been involved with the charity since its inception in 1987, so I am biased about the benefits we give to people who use our service. Claire is going to describe those services, if anyone is interested in joining us as a volunteer, they would be very welcome. The amount of time you give volunteering is guided by you. Training is given and I am sure you would find the rewards of helping someone, satisfying. My name is Claire I am the Co-ordinator of S&LHHS. Our charity supports local people who have cancer, their family members and those who are bereaved. Compassion and being there for people are at the centre of all we do. Through our services and support we help people to navigate their diagnosis, treatment or prognosis and the challenges and uncertainties they face living with cancer. We do this in a range of ways including through regular visits and telephone contact, groups, home companionship, cancer counselling, providing transport to medical appointments and treatment, assistance with benefit applications, complementary therapy and signposting to other services or sources of advice. To support people struggling with their grief we offer one to one bereavement counselling with a qualified counsellor. This service is open to those in our community grieving the death of a loved one as well as to the family members whose loved ones we supported. We rely on the kindness and generosity of local people and businesses so thank you for supporting Artichoke’s fundraising this year. Every penny contributed helps us to continue providing our vital support which is offered without charge. If you would like to donate or feel we may be able to support you or someone you know, contact us on 01760 722937 or office@slhhs.co.uk. Registered charity no .1104166
