In Vogue Spring 2022

In Vogue Spring 2022

Welcome to our seasonal round up of what is ‘In Vogue’ a look at the trends that we can follow & those we wont.

Before we start let’s run through a few things that put today’s video into context.

The first is the 80/20 rule. This refers to the items that are in your wardrobe as well as the budget that you allocate to it. Ideally 80% of your budget should be spent on the cornerstones that make up your wardrobe, for me this would be (most importantly) good underwear, a great blazer, a white shirt or a navy jumper. 20% can then be spent on frippery, the on trend items that will bring you bang up to date, a posh frock for a special occasion. All too many women blow their budget on a dress they are going to wear to a wedding or a black tie event  once & then have to make do for the rest of the season with what has been in their wardrobe for ever.

The next is that we can pick & chose the trends that appeal to us. We have moved on from the sixties & seventies when everyone who could afford to do so slavishly followed fashion. Women these days are more confident about their own style so we can either buy into a trend or if we hate it completely ignore it.

Finnally a reminder that these collections were launched on the catwalks almost a year ago. A time that looked forward with hope to 2022, to  a covid free summer, full of parties & a return to a time that resembled the ‘roaring twenties’. These garments were designed months before we had heard of the fuel crisis or dreamt that there would be a war in Europe. The world in 2022 is a very different place to the one designers had hoped for so a lot of these trends might seem overly frivolous for the time we are living in now.

Let’s whistle through the trends that at another time in our lives we might have at least dipped in to, but possibly not now before moving onto the trends that can be interpreted this season, something that both Donna & Sarah will be doing in our Thursday Video in a couple of weeks time.

Trends that we are ignoring

  • Sex – Yes many designers have re-discovered it. On last summer’s catwalks bare midriffs, chainmail, latex & sheer body wrapping designs could be seen
  • The Micro Skirt – Obviously our cellulite wont be going there.
  • The Biker Jacket – in summer???? Not a chance, but a big hint that you should dust yours off for winter or if it is something you have been thinking about investing in, this is the year to do it.
  • Y2K – which is code for re-introducing the fashion of the late nineties & early noughties, bare midriffs, low rise jeans & butterflies. One way to be able to interpret this might be a pair of coloured aviators or a washed denim jacket.

Trends that we are buying into

  • The Maxi – it seems that skirts should be either uber short or to the ground, so perhaps the long midi which is almost a maxi is a more practical interpretation of this. We have been buying into this trend now for a couple of years & see no reason for this not to continue.
  • Black & White Stripes – An easier interpretation of this is the classic navy & white stripe which is so easy to use to update a casual wardrobe.
  • Following on from this is Black & White. A perennial look for summer is pairing a pair of black jeans or trousers with a crisp white shirt or T shirt & some black sandals.
  • Head to Toe White. Monochrome whatever the colour always makes you look taller & slimmer. White is fresh & clean, however should be saved for high days & holy days, confidence that your clothes will stay white for longer than five minutes is the ultimate accessory for this look
  • Colour in Every Hue. This is the trend that was designed to bring us joy. colour clashing, colour blocking fuschia, cerillion blue & marker pen yellow. It is also a very easy trend to translate into every day life at very little cost so bringing a little happiness into our lives without breaking the bank. The one colour we are ignoring is this years pantone colour of the year which is a shade of lilac, why? Because we absolutely hate it!
  • Bold Print – Another easy one for us & one that we feel you are naturally drawn to as some of our best selling pieces this season have had bold prints – a lot of these are already sold out.
  • Platforms/Flatforms & Big Bags. Now this one we love. Added height with comfort is a bit of a no brainer, along with a bag large enough tin which o carry your life
  • Beach Ready – A combination of several trends & one we are all more than ready for. Ethnic Prints, Midi Dresses, Sarong Scarves & Slides
  • Tailoring – Oversized Jackets, wide leg trousers also reflect the hyper feminine trend when combined with frilled collars & pussy bow blouses. Now this one is one that we buy into every season & despite the outlook becoming decidedly more cloudy since these trends were forecast it is a great one for those who want to be more adventurous with their look, hence the popularity of The Tessa Trouser & Annabel shirt. If however you are looking for an investment this year – you cant go wrong with The Bariloche Blazer ( more on their way) .
  • Jewellery – Gold & Pearls. Simply, elegantly, timeless.

As always if there is something that you see that your life is incomplete without I have popped links below the video to our shop.
